This was a strange one, it was the night before the Melbourne HOMEBAKE in 1998, we played at The Corner Hotel and our sound guy John Gardner recorded it for us. Not the best recording in the world, it sounds like live mics – but that’s cool. I would never have dreamed of airing this back then, but now it all seems forgiveable. Quirky, interesting, charming. Good old hindsight.
This was when we’d just written Hi Cs and a bunch of other songs which would end up on Rocks On The Soul. Olive and Short Sighted - very early versions which didn’t even stay the same by the time we demoed them. A version of Dart WITHOUT the “Dart” riff. I know what we were thinking: we’d been playing it live for almost 3 years at every single gig and were sick of it. I think we only did this once or twice to relieve the boredom. A song called Too Bored which I’d forgotten about – we never demoed it; various riffs and lyrics from it ended up in other songs. A really fast version of Triple Hook – our first ever performance of it; we fuck it up a minute in and it grinds to a halt. And we even finished with Low – a rarity.
