Wow, we’re back!
In the fine tradition of every single band in rock history who have ever announced a final gig, tour or album, Screamfeeder are back to play a one-off show with BOB MOULD at The Zoo on Friday March 8th.
The facts:
September 2011: The band regain all rights to their entire back catalogue and self-release Cargo Embargo, a 40-song B sides collection.- October 2011: Drummer Dean Shwereb announces he’s off to live in the UK, indefinitely.
- December 2011: After a 9 album, 20 year career, Screamfeeder play what is billed as their last gig, with Violent Soho and Tape/Off at Woodland in Brisbane, performing a 23 song set to a packed house.
- 2012: Kellie releases her second solo album Magnetic North, and Tim’s band WE ALL WANT TO release their second album Come Up Invisible. For family reasons, Dean returns to Australia.
- Jan 2013: Bob Mould and band announce Australian tour, playing Sugar, Husker Du and Bob solo material. Screamfeeder are suggested as a desired support band. After a month of negotiation the booking is confirmed.
Questions:
- I thought they’d broken up: No, when Dean left the country they had to stop playing; they expected it would be for a long time, perhaps for ever – no one knew for sure. Woodland wasn’t a break up gig.
- Does this mean Screamfeeder are really back? We don’t know.
- Will they be playing other gigs? Not as yet.
- What line up will be performing? It’s the classic 3 piece line up of Tim Steward, Kellie Lloyd and Dean Shwereb, which came into effect in 1995 and continued through till 2011.
- What songs will be played? It will be a full on rock set, with songs spanning a 10 year period, 1993-2003
- Why did they get the gig? All band members grew up on a diet of American hardcore, punk and indie rock. It would be fair to say that Hüsker Dü is well documented as one of their biggest early influences.

Last minutes..
Well we’ve been rehearsing for the gig, and it’s been pretty cool. I wish I could saay that we’ve been hard at it for months, but that’s just not the case. We’re not that kind of band. We have been practising over the last week and getting a set list together and it’s looking very diverse, and kinda long..
Some songs have been really hard to remember, it took me about an hour to even work out how to play Ice Patrol last night, (and work out the tuning it’s written in) after Dean and kellie convinced me it should be included. *But I worked it out!
It’s weird, some songs we haven’t played since about ’03, and they come back instantly, first try. Other ones take a bit more work. (like ones from ’93..)
We now have the daunting task of organising how we’re going to run the set list, and who’s gonna join us for guest appearences on various songs etc. If you’ve got a burning desire to play guitar on a song, apply, we may even let you.
We’re selling CDs at the show as well as all the shirts n stuff – big news? – but these are the last Screamfeeder CDs on earth, once they’re gone, they’re gone!

Calling the Shots
We’ve had a pretty good year, having been invited to play some killer shows in the country’s greatest cities, and managing to slot them in in between all our activities with our other bands! So we’re going to wrap the year up with a bang with this one.
2011 is also our 20 year anniversary as a band, so that’s reason to celebrate, and we’ll be saying farewell to our drummer Dean Shwereb who is heading to the UK to live in 2012, so this could be the last ‘feeder show for a very long time.
Joined by grunge gods Violent Soho, and Tape/Off (Flaming Lips and Archers of Loaf in a blender), we’ll be playing a set largely dictated by our facebook fans (expect to hear old songs, new songs, hits and rarities)
Remind yourself what will always be great about Brisbane indie rock. Come celebrate! Long live the ‘feeder!

As we told you, we have recently gained complete control of our entire back catalogue of 8 albums, 4 EPs and numerous singles. We are now administering all titles digitally and physically, and in all the excitement we have been trawling the archives and have come up with a 40 song “album” of B Sides and rarities.
Remixes of ‘feeder faves, rare overseas releases, every b side between 1992 and 2005, songs you’ve heard before and songs you haven’t, instrumentals, home recordings, experiments and collaborations are all included on this massive round up.
